The Matthew Shepard FoundationWhen their 21 year old son Matthew was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in 1998, Dennis and Judy Shepard founded an education program in his honor. According to their mission statement, the foundation is designed to “Replace hate with understanding, compassion, and acceptance.” Part of their goal is to promote national education and outreach programs by retelling the Matthew Shepard story. They hope it will act as a reminder to stop the violence against gays and lesbians everywhere.
