1,138 Reasons for Legalizing Gay Marriage

In the United States, heterosexual married couples receive 1138 federal rights, protections, and benefits simply by being married in this country. In other words, a legal marriage affords rights to the members of that couple automatically and without the need to petition or fill out any paperwork. Conversely, these same rights and protections are denied to same-sex couples for the simple reason that they are not legally allowed to marry. Awareness movements are beginning to take place -- like Love and Pride's handing out of 1,138 roses in New York's Union Square -- but more still needs to be done.
